Germany is of no benefit, and of no interest to the US.
None. Zilch. Nada.
There is absolutely no good reason for the US to remain in NATO, nor for US forces to remain in Germany.
Most certainly they do not warrant our Article V commitment. If Russia were to occupy the entire country tomorrow, the world would be a better place the following day.
Many disagree. But they have nothing but platitudes in response.
The Germans have their heads up their butts, as usual. I was studying in (West) Germany in 1986. When Reagan planned to move missiles into Europe to counter the Soviet missiles aimed AT GERMANY, who did the Germans protest in the streets against? (Hint: it wasn’t the Russians,) Despite the Germans’ angst and contempt, Reagan’s hard line proved effective, and three years later, the Wall came down and the Germans were planning their reunification.
Now today the Germans are so eager to comply with Putin’s plan to blackmail them with gas and oil supplies that they even have a former Chancellor on the Russian payroll. Putin is in no better position than the Soviets when it comes to competing with determined NATO defense spending, but when Trump warns about Putin’s threat and calls for shoring up NATO spending, who do the Germans criticize? (Hint: it ain’t the Russians.)
The EU is coming apart, and Germanys Forth Reich along with it.
Thank you for your excellent comments. They are all well taken.
A good trade for the US is:
Norklandia and Iran
For Germany and Ukraine
The world would be better the following day.
DW is the German government’s foreign propaganda bureau.
Nobody ever said they were bright. They cant seem to think beyond today and at the most the next day. The Long game is beyond them.
I still think there will be a rather vicious solution one day with the whole migrant thing.
Basically their VOA, which is controlled by our State Department.
Barnhardt : Tell me, Hilda, does all this frighten you? Does it make you feel insecure?
Hilda : Yes, sir, it certainly does.
Barnhardt : That’s good, Hilda. I’m glad.
Europe has done a pretty good job of that all by themselves.
Notable exceptions are Poland, the Czeck Republic, Austria, Hungary and possibly Serbia who refuse to embrace open borders.
“Basically their VOA, which is controlled by our State Department. “
The State of Germany controls all messaging in their media, whether overtly or surreptitiously.
The is no hard, contrary opinion in German media.
Well they should....Worth repeating...
You actually think Russia occupying all of Europe would be good for the world?
Have a nice day.
Its more like they’re worried Trump is going to derail the Gravy Train whereby they get to freeload off of America for their national defense and get the benefit of an unbalanced sweetheart trade deal with America.
They must have killed all the smart Krauts in WWII according to the same poll.
They could have all of that and more if they just dropped tariffs. Never mind a greater percentage of their people working than ever before.
They really do see the trade war they started as one of attrition, though. So they aren’t going to back down. The left-wing US presidents gave them too much help over the decades in that respect, effectively surrendering and betraying us.
The Germany has been thought of as the economic engine of the EU. Dig below the surface, and a lot of that success is due to their trade deficit against the U.S. and other countries. They’ve been benefiting by selling more and at higher prices to other countries, which would account for many points or all of the points in their economic rate of growth. Take away their tariff advantages, and their economy would be lackluster or perhaps even show negative “growth”.
Europe will be forged in crises, and will be the sum of the solutions adopted for those crises. They have a solution up their sleeves. Just like they did for the countries they convinced to take bailout loans in exchange for draconian tax increases and surrender of sovereignty. Do not doubt that they have their own long game in mind; indeed, the EU itself is a long game.

They’ve never been a real ally. Their only interest is in getting the US to subsidize them as much as possible. They’re one of the most mercantile countries on earth. In short, they are worse than worthless. We need to put distance between us and ourselves. Withdraw from Nato and bring the boys home.
That’s not necessary for them to do. But their whole “beggar-thy-neighbor” strategy is about political power more than economic power.
