I think the gist of this article is that those who ordered from a dealer are being given preferential treatment.from the article:

Dealers need to make a profit and not even Tesla with their direct sales to consumers is making a profit...And that doesn't even get into what a dealer would have to have to simply service a Tesla. Beginning with trained techs.

Tesla actually has very good margins on car sales. They don’t show a profit because of their considerable investment in increased production capacity.
