The interface didn't require an excerpt, but the excerpt will help readers to avoid missing the main essence of the article before reading the bulk of material unrelated to the part of the thesis more interesting to most readers. Reading the whole piece is worthwhile, though, and might add more detailed context.

Their so-called belief in climate change requires them to insert it into stories where it has no real place.

By the way, the wealthy survivalist clients invited and paid Rushkoff to deliver answers to them. Apologies for not including that part.

“They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from the angry mobs.”

Idiots. The thought of actually defending themselves never entered their minds. “

“But how would they pay the guards once money was worthless?”

That’s always the rub.

“What would stop the guards from choosing their own leader?”

Killing them, I suppose. But how would you do that if they have the guns?

“The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew”

That trick never works.

“Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival...”

Good luck with that. Once again, the guards have guns.

They think everything will be cool for them because, they think they will be in charge.

Not so fast, Billionaire Bob. I plan on eating the rich if things go like Venezuela.

The thin veneer of civilization... and even that's apparently more illusion than reality.

The best thing the ultra rich can do to promote their survival and safety is to support freedom and prosperity for all and stand against socialism in all of its forms.

I think that many rich people are egotistical and love the socialist model where only a handful of privileged elites get to live in ivory towers while the rabble lives in the dirt. They want to look down on people; this is how they attain a sense of self-worth. But those oppressed rabble can make life very dangerous for the ultra rich in their enclaves. Far better to promote capitalism. The middle class aren’t as likely to attack, since they are already living fairly well.

Their first order of business is gaining enough power to use war, designer disease and societal breakdown to cull the human population down to a manageable number of slaves, who will be quartered in underground hovels and controlled with drugs and various technologies such as voice-to-skull (V2K).

Advanced robots will protect the elite, and some of the elite will “download” their neural systems into digital form so as to become immortal, in some sense. The elite plan to each dwell in enormous personal estates, worked by slaves and robots. The Earth will be a manicured paradise of discrete estates according to their dreams.

As the robots become more capable, the slaves will become superfluous, and then they will be sealed off permanently in their underground hovel-graves. The elites will derive enormous satisfaction watching the slaves on night-vision video as they gradually suffer in the darkness and die underground, hopeless and broken in spirit.

The satanic mindset of the elites isn’t satisfied with mere immeasurable wealth. “Lesser” beings must suffer greatly and die, so the elites can feel like cruel gods.

The world of the future will be ran by a small population of skilled technicians who put in 10-hour work weeks only to ensure the machines stay running.

There will be no need for billions of unskilled, illiterate masses who know only how to procreate, eat food that was given to them, engage in violence, and steal.

Getting from here to there is going to be interesting.

That is what communism is.. there is the ruling class and the rest of us are peons and our meager salaries are their bread...
Young people dont understand what they are asking for.
Experience trumps an argument and younguns havent lived long enough to know life’s lessons

The article was entertaining and worth reading, agreed.

they were preparing for a digital future that had a whole lot less to do with making the world a better place than it did with transcending the human condition altogether

Regarding the quote above - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" - Tears for Fears. Translated into English and not poetry, everyone wants to be a God, especially in the modern world ("I'll choose my gender"). It's very easy to envision oneself as a minor deity with the capabilities that modern technology puts into our hands.

“When the hedge funders asked me the best way to maintain authority over their security forces after “the event,” I suggested that their best bet would be to treat those people really well, right now. They should be engaging with their security staffs as if they were members of their own family.”

I have to imagine the true super elite probably thought about this problem decades ago. I can half believe they would have started completely isolated boys and girls schools to raise servants and guards up from babies. They would attempt to instill in them obedience and loyalty to the elites family the point they couldn’t even imagine questioning their orders. They would be given no frame of reference to even think anything was wrong with the situation.

There is an obvious solution here:

When things start to look bad, find a down-on-its luck town. Donate half of your wealth to empower the residents: medical care, education, training, small factories/farms, churches, whatever. Just help the town become sufficient in a way that gives every resident a chance to contribute. Then you will have thousands of willing security guards. Americans are not like others - as long as we think the system is fair, we are happy for the rich guy to keep his honestly-earned wealth.

Then, take some of what’s left and buy a lot of yellow cake and some centrifuges.......

Qaddhafi had an estimated wealth of $200 billion, had literally armies of guards to protect him and still ended up dead.
