Any adult without a criminal record can buy a rifle in Canada. You have to take a firearm safety course that takes a couple of hours. They give you a Fire Arm Certificate and you go buy your guns.

This was in 2013, almost five years ago.

How often are the classes offered?

Do you get the certificate at the class?

Classes are offered every week near where I live.

On Vancouver Island you might have to travel a couple hours to find a class unless you can do it thru the local RCMP detachment.
Mine took about 10 days in 2002
we renew every 5 years on line, If you let it expire you have to take the class again
If you don’t have a current FAC you can’t buy bullets.
The RCMP added a 28 day waiting period for a more thorough criminal check in 2015 and have changed the name to PAL (Possession and Acquisition License)
Maybe it takes longer in BC but it’s federal law so it shouldn’t.
