At the end of the day, that is the leverage - plead or the government will cost you so much in legal fees, you will be ruined.

Things they pled guilty of were small potatoes which are completely unrelated to the Russians.

Mueller’s job wasn’t a fishing expedition to destroy as many of Trump consultants as he could - it was to prove and prosecute Russian interference. That list has nothing to do with his mandate.

Something like that is one of the worries I have about Manafort. He is in solitary confinement and I am sure that it has been made clear to him by Mueller's thugs that he will never leave jail alive if he doesn't provide whatever testimony Mueller deems necessary to get Trump impeached.
