My spouse who is true believer in recycling would have to be sedated first.

Other than metal, I see no point in it.

You need to show your wife that video. The funny part is that at the end of the video they actually say that, for the average consumer, the only thing worth recycling is what they pay you to recycle - aluminum cans. That
s why they pay you. It’s worth doing, financially.

Seriously though, find that video and show your wife. It’s quite entertaining and also an eye opener in ways you don’t expect.

Yep. Aluminum, most certainly is worth recycling. Steel, and other metals, probably. Maybe glass.

Anything else? Just makes people feel good about themselves.

I would add that recycling - on a large-scale business level - might make a bit more sense. I've taken truckloads of batteries to the recycle plant, and they're always glad to see me.

But - it's a large amount of similar material, all clean and separated, and they already likely have a market for it.

Buncha unsorted, non-clean household trash? Who wants it?

Metal is about the only thing that does make sense, and that is because of the energy requirements to refine aluminum. Steel or iron, not so much.
