There is too much "intel" on the marks of this scam and too much intel on the persons they are impersonating for this to be about a few thousand bucks.

I had to have missed something, but how did the “bad guys” profit? It sounds like people are putting up their own monies to buy plane tickets and do work, but how do the bad guys get money? They paid the airlines for their tickets and the hire their own taxis in foreign countries. For those doing Skype sex, no money is exchanged.
