Washington had a country that was united in it’s desire ... to tell the British to go home

That is pretty far from the case. Royalist sympathizers abounded in the colonies.

“That is pretty far from the case. Royalist sympathizers abounded in the colonies.”

From Wikipedia:

“Historians have estimated that between 15 and 20 percent of the two million whites in the colonies in 1775 were Loyalists (300,000-400,000).”

Reading further, the article states that about 20,000 of them left the continent for other British possessions or Britain itself, after the Declaration of Independence was signed.

It would be a wonderful thing for President Trump to have only 20% of the people in this country opposed to him, rather than just under half. I would say that Washington had a good deal if 80% of the Colonists supported the forming of the country, or at least didn’t oppose it. Just wished those here today opposed to our form of government would all leave our shores.

They are still here. Today they are known as Democratics. Or rather Democratic-Socialists. Lol
