Pruitt’s big mistake was trusting anyone.

He expected to find some camaraderie among employees. Serious mistake. He ought to have built personal relations among WH staff and treated his employees at the agency as enemies of the state. Had he done so he would still be there. Or not. It is reasonable to assume he could not tolerate the constant bombardment of hate pouring out of the agency. Some doses of Trump's rhino skin oil are an important part of the kit for running some of these agencies.

The Boss should never expect or hope to have employees as friends or allies.
They are EMPLOYEES, nothing more or less, treat them with respect and treat them evenly and fairly.

When they f#ck up (which they eventually will) determine if it was an honest mistake, sloppy craftsmanship, or deliberate sabotage.
If it was a mistake, take them through the job again so they can identify the mistake and avoid it in the future.
If it was laziness or sloppy craftsmanship; advise them verbally AND in writing that this type of behavior will not be tolerated, and any future incidents of a similar nature will result in termination.
If it was deliberate sabotage; slap them with every rule in the book and move to terminate them IMMEDIATELY.
