A dive team brought a fifth boy out of a cave in Thailand Monday and were working at lightning speed to recover his coach and seven soccer teammates still trapped underground a day after the first four boys were successfully evacuated in an international rescue mission that has gripped the attention of the world.
The latest rescue was completed just after 5 p.m. local time, 6 p.m. Eastern time, a source close to the rescue operation said, about six hours after divers entered the jungle cave to resume the operation to save the remaining members of the soccer team that has now been in the cavern for 17 days.

I agree. The rescue effort is amazing. I am following this story and not only are they getting the boys out, the boys are the only ones on the stretchers. Until they confirm it’s the boys, I worry it also might be part of the rescue team.
I have not had TV since 1997 and don’t do radio news any more. I pull all my news. I saw a headline about a cave a while back but wasn’t interested so I didn’t read it. I saw this healine and it got me to read enough to figure out that some people were stranded in a cave in Thailand.
Since we’re in the US, I figured it must be news because they were American tourists. Otherwise, why else would this particular tragedy be news here compared to all the other tragedies going on in the world as I type this? But then another freeper pointed out the human interest angle. It’s an ongoing nailbiter, apparently.
Lot of talk about the Oxygen tank
Scuba systems use compressed air.
As far as I know only recirculating closed systems use oxygen.
As the pressure of the atmosphere increases in the cave, the negative effects of the exhaled carbon dioxide also increases. It becomes a double edged sword.
Also, to be able to supply oxygen for that length would require a massive amount of PSI to overcome the friction in the hose. There may not be a pump that size available or an oxygen generator available.
Such a selfless act. I hope he was a believer and is now in God’s hands.

For the same reason we will spend months on the shooting of Trayvon Martin and ignore the shooting of hundreds of African Americans in Chicago.
It’s all about selling soap.
The awesome advantage of pulling all of one’s news is that one can ignore stories that have no real impact on their life and focus on the ones that do. I didn’t find out about the swine nor the bird flues until it was determined that there was no real risk. I missed the chance to worry about it. :)
I was wondering if they gave the boys a mild sedative before diving to prevent panic. None know how to swim.
It’s Ok Cuban leaf, I didn’t know myself what the big deal was until recently. Many think it’s just a cave with some water and rescuers just need to walk in a little and shine a few flashlights.
It takes on a whole other dimension when you have an international team of hero divers going up against what seems impossible.
And then when one sees the faces of those young kids, you know we are witnessing a miracle.
See the 3-minute video in #14.
As one poster mentioned, there is going to be a documentary or film of some sort that captures this miracle.
I have read reports where sedating the boys has been a possibility but nothing confirmed.
“Have you been in a cave the last two weeks?”
LOL !
.
This has to be unnerving even for experienced divers. Hopefully the kids look at it as just a fun adventure.
Great graphic!
And what’s more, this has to be done over miles. It’s not a short jaunt, it’s long and treacherous.
I have to be even for an MRI. I cannot imagine THOSE conditions! Prayers up for all involved.
You can avoid much of the US nonsense by listening to BBC news. They tend to ignore much of the “People magazine” stories designed to push the Democrat Party agenda.
My aunt with dementia can’t look at a clock and tell you the time but she can prattle endlessly about the “children” on CNN and how “that ole Donald Duck” is hurting them.
The bottom graphic says “Poor Visibility”, it should read “No Visibility” like swimming through black coffee.
