Good question. If they have posted a sign saying, "Divorce is a hate crime", would that encourage divorcees to come for salvation?
I know of a Mennonite owned building that was rented by a Baptist church.
When the Baptists came out in favor of our troops in Iraq, they were kicked out.
To my mind simply using terms like LGBT etc... as given and defined by greater society is accepting the world’s viewpoint.
“Good question. If they have posted a sign saying, “Divorce is a hate crime”, would that encourage divorcees to come for salvation?”
Yes.
I think there’s no problem saying those things.
“Pre-marital sex is a hate crime...”
“Cussing and sweating is a hate crime...”
Etc...
People forget.
I doubt it.
I certainly agree with you . . . I believe the church’s method was unbiblical. God’s Word will not return again void but will accomplish what it is sent out to do, while human slogans have no promise of fulfilling God’s purposes.
A cogent Bible verse would have done a much better job of getting the message of repentance out.
Some friends found out that a very large proportion at their church are on second marriages. They and the pastor confronted a man and woman living in adultery and they are getting kickback from the church including some leaders. Pretty sad
The only way what you say is true is if the Gospel has lost its power to save to the uttermost. They live in gross darkness, blind and miserable. God did not send His Son into the world so they could remain there. If we care enough to give them the Gospel they can and will be saved.
“Correct, but I wish we could be more compassionate and engaging to lead them to Christ. Sexual brokenness is an idolatry built on acceptance of false messages. Telling people they are committing hate crimes isnt showing concern for their soul out of love.”
Thank you! Pretty sure that Romans 3:23 is still applicable. We would be far better witnesses of Christ if we remembered that verse. Would recommend Rosaria Butterfield’s excellent books for those who want to see how faith can be both loving towards people and uncompromising on sin.
Can’t say that I have seen many people who have been persuaded to leave a destructive lifestyle, which is ANYTHING that places something other than God on the altar, by having someone yell at them, belittle them or show hatred toward them. (Actually, I can’t say that I have ever seen anyone come to Christ through those methods!)
What’s that got to do with the Gospel. We were instructed to go...that wasn’t predicated them...but on the empty tomb.
The witness of Christian life is so weak and diluted with worldliness today, that relative to the norms the Lord knows is possible, that it itself looks like hate. We’ve taken worldly success to be one and the same with the grace of God, when they aren’t.
A Christendom with a life of little or no succor will also show little or nothing that a person mired in vice could desire as an alternative.
To point this out is not an exercise in carping or abstract blame. It’s a lament about how the successes of Christendom have spoiled it. No visible enemy means no effort mustered to snatch its victims out of the flames.
The good Lord knows that all, and has wiped smugness off the American Christian face by letting the devil seize a bit of the “gay” prize. Now at this point, Christendom can either hang it up concluding that we’re Sodom now (as was widely alarmed was about to happen) or else look to the Abrahamic bargain that was fulfilled in Christ.
Trouble is, when some suggest toning it down, others jump on them accusing them of being mealy-mouth and similar taunts about supposed cowardice.
Here’s how I might re-imagine that sign — something along the lines of: “LGBTQ is fake love, but God is real love! Come and hear how.” I think our society knows quite a lot about hate — it is saturated with hate. It’s already living in a pool of God’s wrath right now. Love is the news. So much news, that even fakes get attention.
I am sure that this church The Remnant is a cult. They have been in the news several times and all the reports are bad just the same kind of cult activities claiming to be followers of Christ. There isn’t the gospel preached there at the Remnant so this is a kind of fake news article. There have also been child custody issues with this cult.
This is meant to get you going and discussing Christians and Gays. This is to fuel left who are pro Gay and us on FR that are anti Gaystopo. The Hill should really do some research like a minimal Google search is all that is needed.
The Remnant might be trolling too, in a milder form of what the Westburros do.
I agree this is a publicity stunt and meant to get attention and not real news or even worthy of being reported.
I suspect that leftist will copy this article and will probably end up in the NY Times or CNN to prove how bigoted Christians are. I mean what better proof than this.
I like your sign much better!!
I believe the Biblical word would be sin. Hate crime is a Leftist linguistic construction that has no place in any Christian environment.
I find it quite telling how many churches put up little catchy slogans on their signs. I figure theres at least a dozen appropriate verses on any topic out of the tens of thousands in the Bible. Of course, the professional church-builders know better how to fill pewz and coffers.
That seems likely — and yet it won’t be entirely in vain. Most such messages today result in scorn at Christians — oh you want us to repent? That’s cute. Look at your divorce rates, they are no different from the society at large!
Until Love with a capital L gets back into Christendom in any visible way, this will keep on happening too.
I don’t cavil about synonyms... I do lament that if there is Love of the Calvary kind, we’re not seeing it very well in modern Christendom. A picture that is almost solid black does not show much detail. Judgment has to begin with the house of God, and God would rather do it gently than harshly, but will the house of God ever wake up and smell the Rose of Sharon?
