Sounds like an excellent idea! But, let’s prove it to those skeptical gun nuts by first mandating it for all police officers and soldiers, who will face those criminals and enemy soldiers using outdated and dangerous “dumb gun” technology.

Probably should require the same for a Congress critter to enter the House Chambers, every time they enter and/or exit.

Actually, liberal idiots and the political allies should hope that the firearms industry does not decide to merge computing power with firearms. I'm in no hurry to have a firearm that needs a fingerprint to unlock, but I would not mind having one with a combined thermal and optical camera that uses force generating gyros to push my hands so that the barrel is aligned with the optimal location of the person or other warm target nearest to the center of my aim point.

And then the same processor, camera, and gyros reset the location after the recoil induced muzzle lift so that my aim point is once again on the target at an optimal location.

With such a system there would be much less chance of a shot missing the intended target, and you could even hit targets by just pre-activating the trigger and sweeping the gun past the target, allowing the processor in the gun to fire when aligned with the target.

Such a system would let untrained civilians facing dangerous criminals, or dangerous animals, to hit the target on the first shot, and then if needed repeat the shot quickly.

Of course a more advanced version would let you remotely operate the firearm using your phone as the viewing and control system, so you could send your now intelligent firearm downstairs to see what caused the breaking glass.
