that kind of dough doesn’t sound like it would be generated by some weed and cough syrup. and it’s pretty well known by now that most currency carries chemically detectable traces of drugs — as it rubs around in cash drawers the traces spread.

I matters not. The law dropped the ball. They can’t even prove it was cough syrup. They did not test it.

All cash has trace amounts of narcotics on it. Imagine how many hands a dollar bill passes through before it ends up in your wallet. I guarantee you that if the cops, prosecutors or judges were to have the cash in their own wallets tested, it would be positive for traces of narcotics. So, it’s a false premise to seize anybody’s cash simply because a dog detects the scent of narcotics on it.
