How many in the US Senate, HOR and Governorships have let us down after exhibiting so much promise, in campaigns and in prior experiences?

True, but that is part of the nature of the beast. By definition, traditionally minded women are less likely to devote their lives to public office or political involvement, as their primary responsibility is being a wife an mother. Every so often you get a high powered woman who can do both, or for whatever reason, does not get married, freeing her for other things. I would trust a Sarah Palin, or if she ran for office years ago, a Phyllis Schlafley.

I think we have to look for other marks. The whole Harvard/Yale thing may create a concurrent allegiance that can compete with true patriotism, religion and family.

I am now suspicious of judges (not so much politicians in general) who get along too well and are too social. That was the ONLY alarm that went off in my head with Justice Roberts. He loved being on good terms with people, and going to parties, and being well-liked. Scalia didn't go to so many of those functions, was comfortable with having fewer friends and more enemies. In general, women are more likely to fall into the former category. I give regular politicians a pass on this because it is practically mandatory for all but the very few who for whatever reason don't have to do personal fundraising (because of notoriety, wealth, or being well-positioned in the right district).

A 5th liberal to the court and a house win in November and we are not just screwed, we are totally screwed.

Sad that you think we are so weak. We just had a Marxist President with both Houses of Congress under hyper-Leftists Pelosi and Reid. We survived.

We had 5 solid Liberals on The Bench for most of the 70s (Marshall, Brennan, Douglas/Stevens, Stewart, and White). In the 60s, it was mostly 7-2-0 (Liberals opposed by only centrists Clark and Harlan, and none on the Right). We survived.

Only the Senate gives Advise/Consent votes on Judges. Further, only the Senate can remove a sitting President. The House can only Impeach. Clinton was impeached, and stayed in office... And the Senate is likely to go +2 to +5 in NOV based on current polling. (Several big primaries next month could offer some surprises, though.)

Try to keep the hyperbole in check.

4. One of the plusses is tat she could be around for four decades, waiting a few years neutralizes that.

A fourth decade of a Centrist is better than 3 decades of a solid Conservative? By that "logic", Trump should appoint a third year Law student, and hope for a 6th decade of unknown results.

Justice Kavanaugh is only 7 years older, and has authored 300 more opinions than Barrett. I'll trade 7 years in exchange for a MUCH more reliable track record.

(I really liked the idea of Justice Robert Young Jr getting picked, and making a Court where the 2 most conservative Justices happen to be black. Woulda been cool, but he is 21 years older than Justice Barrett... THAT'S a bit too much to sacrifice... but 7 years is not.)

And, as the old wisdom goes: men never change, and women never stop changing. Justice Barrett shows a lot of promise, but I would want a LONGER proven track record from a female Justice for this very reason. If she was 7 years older than Kavanugh, with 300 more established opinions, then I'd be screaming her name from the rooftops... but she isn't.

You are guessing that she'd be a centrist. We won't know about any of these folks until they get in. Souter and O'Connor already gave hints. Kennedy had not.

“His impeachment trial had nothing to do with murder.”

If Starr had done his job, Clinton would have been executed ere now.

“Trials deal with facts, not our accepted beliefs.”

Unless they eschew facts in favor of a blatant coverup. My word, do you think fake news started after Clinton?

Perhaps you don’t remember that the house was on the verge of voting not to impeach, when the manager of the investigation set up a special evidence room. Reps who had asserted their intent to vote “no” went into that room like wiseass adolescents, came out somber, and voted to impeach.

We still don’t know what that evidence was, because the dims refused to allow the Senate to see it.

Both Clintons are murderers, and only corruption has kept them off death row.

Again. We all know the history and the history is the impeachment trial contained no counts for murder.

Yes, we all know that he got away with murder, as Ken Starr refused to investigate any of his serious crimes.

Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa.

I have gone and done more due dilgence on my own and come to the conclusion that what is being said about Mr Kavanaugh and the suggestions that HE provided an overly broad model of what impeachment could be grounded on, is predominately innuendo and supposition, based solely on Kavanaugh’s participation on a legal team that drew up a list of ways impeachable offenses could be claimed (which some thing was overly broad). Who on the team authored or recommended what on the list is actually unknown, and some of the most broad terms were not used by the team in the end.

I think the Indian guy would be a wise choice since both Kethledge/Kavanaugh could have pro “migrant/IA” inclinations among other things.Kavanaugh has too much Bush going on for me.
Barrett could be one of these pro-migrant/refugee types as well.

Call me crazy, but any brilliant person can be a jurist par excellence. What I want on the court is someone not buyable, someone who has a moral core.

Kavenaugh lied and protected the Clinton machine from being murder suspects. That makes him not fit no matter what great legal genius he has come up with since.

Check out this transcript and see what he did to Patrick Knowlton who stopped to urinate at Ft. Marcy Park that fateful day when Vince Foster was found deep in the muddy woods with not a speck of dirt on his shoes.

http://www.fbicover-up.com/miguel-rodriguez.html

It seems to me like lots of FReepers will accept any immoral behavior as long as the person espouses our politics.

Everyone on Fox News is fêting the great Constitutionalist, Alan Dershowitz, and it doesn’t bother anyone that he had multiple sexual encounters with a 16 year old girl. They just love his anti-left politics.

It’s just not enough for the Supreme Court. We don’t need someone indebted to the Clintons or who can be swayed away from the truth with threats or whatever made him lie back then.

His impeachment trial had nothing to do with murder. Trials deal with facts, not our accepted beliefs.

Kavenaugh helped through deception to keep the Foster case from even being a suspected murder.

THINK OF HOW MANY OTHER DEATHS OCCURRED SINCE THEN AROUND THE CLINTONS. Getting away with Foster may have emboldened them to continue removing inconvenient obstacles over the years.
