I served with a number of nationals and they all served admirably. The Filipino corpsman come to mind. They most definitely EARNED their citizenship.

An old timer who was in prior to WWII said the Corps had entire platoons of Polish speaking machine gunners and they all did a great job.

My ex-wife earned her citizenship while in the Corps.

If they are well vetted and do the job, I don’t have a problem.

My grandfather was a ww1 vet who got his citizenship. I can think of no one who was more conservative than he. He lived what he said by never joining social security as he called it a socialist program.

Yeah. That’s not what this is.

“Some of the service members say they were not told why they were being discharged. Others who pressed for answers said the Army informed them they’d been labeled as security risks because they have relatives abroad or because the Defense Department had not completed background checks on them.”

A month after i gotto my first assignment we were at some big meet and greet

The OS guy looked at me from across the officers club and said hello, [my name]. I couldn’t hear him, he was too far away. Freaked me right out. But i had nothing really to hide he’d done a real background check on me

It’s the military.
Hello!!

I served in the Corps with some outstanding immigrants back in the 80's. Lots of good Filipino Corpsman (0bama corpseman) and some really outstanding Hispanic and Caribbean Marines. Samoans, Guamanians even an Iranian (he had a story) and a Jordanian (rich boy). More nationalities than I can remember. British, Canucks (threw him a party when he got his citizenship) and a Polish piece of $hit (hope he got deported back). Some were not so good but that is par for the course.

All that I can think of wanted to be AMERICANS with a citizenship. Even the Mexicans.
