SAN ANTONIO (AP) Some immigrant U.S. Army reservists and recruits who enlisted in the military with a promised path to citizenship are being abruptly discharged, the Associated Press has learned.
The AP was unable to quantify how many men and women who enlisted through the special recruitment program have been booted from the Army, but immigration attorneys say they know of more than 40 who have been discharged or whose status has become questionable, jeopardizing their futures.
It was my dream to serve in the military, said reservist Lucas Calixto, a Brazilian immigrant who filed a lawsuit against the Army last week. Since this country has been so good to me, I thought it was the least I could do to give back to my adopted country and serve in the United States military.
Some of the service members say they were not told why they were being discharged. Others who pressed for answers said the Army informed them theyd been labeled as security risks because they have relatives abroad or because the Defense Department had not completed background checks on them.
Spokespeople for the Pentagon and the Army said that, due to the pending litigation, they were unable to explain the discharges or respond to questions about whether there have been policy changes in any of the military branches.
Eligible recruits are required to have legal status in the U.S., such as a student visa, before enlisting. More than 5,000 immigrants were recruited into the program in 2016, and an estimated 10,000 are currently serving. Most go the Army, but some also go to the other military branches.

I agree, that is pretty close.
In other words, Obowel DOUBLED the number of immigrant inductees in ONE year? What could go wrong? Wonder how many of those were not fully vetted, or have questionable relatives?
Not that a well-vetted, honest immigrant shouldn’t be allowed to serve, but, call me a cynic, but something tells me that all the inductees over the past few years may, just possibly, NOT have been properly vetted.
My dad got drafted into the army in the 50s when he had been here 6 months and my uncle into the Air Force and he served 10 years. Weve always had permanent residents in the military
Did he sleep all night and work all day?
Yes, I believe he did.
Ok Ill go with legal aliens with honorable discharges. That is fair.
Highly doubt if they were discharged because of immigration status. They were discharged for cause, and are using their immigration status to claim victim status is my guess.
A direct quote from the article would indicate you either didn't really read it, can't read very well or emotionally reacted before getting to an important money line.
"Eligible recruits are required to have legal status in the U.S., such as a student visa, before enlisting."
You can decide which. I don't know you well enough to make the call. Either way, you make us look bad.
;)
The problem is when judges are using it as a method to keep losers out of jail by letting them join up...the bring the gang stuff with them.
Outside of that, I think most foreigners who join up are there for the right reasons...unless they Chinese and inspecting Nuclear bases...then it gets dicey again.
There was no need for me to put anything in quotes; try reading just the snippet header!
And as far as making FR look bad, it's the likes of you, who do that with great agility and aplomb! Well, no, you actually make yourself look foolish, stupid, and incompetent; this site is and has been, long before you showed up to diminish it, fine.
So you admit you didn’t read it. Case closed
It is YOU, just you who either has not read the article, skipped over several sentences in it, and whose abject lack of any reading comprehension skills at all, is still posting specious crap!
In the 4th paragraph from the top, the end of the sentence states:".....because the Defense Department had not completed background checks on them." In other words, they were not "FULLY VETTED", which is what I clearly stated in my post.
Now toddle of to piss and moan in some darkened corner and think, about getting your eyes checked and getting some lessons in reading comprehension skills!
The woman,Margaret Stock from Alaska, who started this whole program, under Obama, is an "IMMIGRATION ACTIVIST ATTORNEY", who has claimed that "immigrants have been serving in our military since 1775, without whom, we would not have won the Revolution....", which is not only a really STUPID statement, but a spurious one! How so? Because were were NOT a country yet, we had no "immigration laws" at that time, and all who fought in the Revolution were subject to the laws of England. Oh and then there is also the wee bit of factual history that states that only about 1/3rd of those living here were in favor of becoming a nation, some of the other 2/3rds actually fought on the side of the Brits, and many fled to Canada, or farther out of the colonies, ignoring the war completely.
You haven't managed to post a single rebuttal, factual or otherwise; but have made time to spew a lot of puerile, specious crap, and insults. Pity that.....
If they are not illegals, I see this as an acceptable path to citizenship. I suspect those being dismissed provided false documentation about their identity.
Ergo, ILLEGALS ALIENS, whom do not fit into what you previously posted about who could legally be recruited into this program.
And as to the vetting...President Trump has stiffened up the security process AND stopping the Obama era MAVNI program, which did not go through Congress, but was instituted, as an EO, by...Obama!
I dont think we need to do this.

Knowing that terrorist will use any means available to infiltrate our society, we really do not need to expend huge resources vetting these individuals. It is a matter of military priorities.
So basically they’re ILLEGAL immigrants who have been found to be a security risk..
there is no way that they “don’t know why the are being seperated”. i have seperperated over eight Soldiers in the last nine months and they all get their time with legsl counsil... so i call b.s on this
Are these legal immigrants or are they illegal aliens?
These stories never tell us which one it is.
