I do that , too sometimes, but with a spare key.
They can have the car (Please!), but NOT my keys! :)
Growing up, we never locked the house...to my knowledge we didn’t even have keys to the house...and my parents would leave the car keys in the front seat, in the carport. Us kids finally convinced my dad to lock his house, after a teen neighbor ran up an $800 phone bill (1-900-dirty talk) when my dad was away.
