Mexico’s new president doesn’t want Mexicans to have to immigrate to the US

Mexico elected a new president Sunday and his win should impact the U.S. debate over immigration.

In his acceptance speech Andrés Manuel López Obrador, vowed to root out corruption in Mexico, even if found among his friends and family. And he told Mexico’s poor that he would fight for them first. He also had a special message for immigrants.

He said those who want to “emigrate should do so for pleasure, not out of necessity.”

He said he would first work to tackle poverty in Mexico. An estimated 44 percent of Mexicans live below the poverty line and 7.6 percent in extreme poverty, according to Coneval, a Mexican social development agency.

“We will respect everyone. But we will give preference to the most humble and forgotten,” he said after being confirmed the winner by the current president Enrique Peña Nieto of the PRI party that lost power for the first time in 2000 and regained it in 2012.

Mexican presidents serve six years and cannot be re-elected.

"Prayers up for the people of Mexico! May they long enjoy peace and freedom and have no reason to fear or flee their native state they love so dear."

God bless you Jim, that is exactly the right attitude. Let us be strong and see to our own security, for that is our right and our responsibility, but let us not despise or wish ill on any people or nation. It is in our best interests that, God willing, they can somehow find solutions to their problems.

Mexico’s recent election outcome is our nation’s Clarion call to build the damn wall. It is only a matter of time (using the Venezeula example)before Mexico falls further down the proverbial slippery slope.

The clock is ticking.....

Years ago, I took a cruise to the Yucatan. We got on a buss and went to Chichen Itza and had to pass a state line to get there. At the state line, there were two machine gun nests set up on the road. They stopped us and the lead soldier came on the bus so the driver and guide could pay him his bribes so we could pass. The guide, who had a Masters degree, just explained that this is how things work in Mexico.

That is Mexico. It is not a shithole because of the climate or the resources. It is a shithole because Mexicans made it a shithole.

Really? How does anything I or Jim say imply that?

F a wall. Concertina wire, belt-fed MGs and directional mines (a good start IMO) would be a much more effective deterrent. We could also consider storing waste intended for Yucca Flats to be laid in shallow trenches along the border.

The problem of wholesale exodus was never meant to have been fixed, Mexico has much more to gain by NEVER allowing the lot of its poorest to improve. They either starve in place, or they flee with the lure of assistance from the drug cartels, who exploit them immediately, or the vague possibility the US will still admit them, regardless of various restrictions placed upon their entry to the US.

Mexico: A corrupt and failed state whose hopes, dreams and ambitions for the future are based on the mass exodus of its citizens.

Actually, he is the Cartel's candidate. He has nothing to fear from them, because he was put in place with their help. Literally dozens of mayoral candidates were murdered in the last few months, making sure that the Cartel-friendly candidates would win across Mexico. This election was theirs, and they won big. Mexico is an official Narco-State now. Their President has as much to fear in Mexico as Obama has to fear at an BLM rally.

I doubt it. El Presidente is always a blueblood Spaniard mix who wants to play King like his ancestors.

He has made two points which some believe are inconsistent. They are actually not inconsistent.

He is a socialist and a one world idealist. He wants to take care of the poor so they have no need to go to the U.S. However if anyone wants to leave they should be allowed to go to the U.S.

It saddens me to think, that many intellectual types, still believe in socialism and think communism is a beautiful theory. These types say that the reason that socialism and communism have failed everywhere, is because it just wasn’t implemented properly.

This bothers me every single day. They never give up and it slowly erodes this country.
