House committees subpoena FBI agent Strzok to testify in public

Two powerful House committees issued a subpoena for FBI counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok to testify publicly at a joint hearing slated for next week.

It was not immediately clear whether Strzok will comply with the order issued by the Judiciary Committee and the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The committees issued their subpoena for 10 a.m. EDT on July 10.

In a letter to the Judiciary panel earlier this week, Strzok's lawyer accused the committee of selectively leaking portions of a closed-door interview Strzok provided last week and called the standing invitation to testify publicly a "trap."

"Having sharpened their knives behind closed doors, the committee would now like to drag back Special Agent Strzok and have him testify in public — a request that we originally made and the committee denied," Aitan Goelman said, according to CNN. "What's being asked of Special Agent Strzok is to participate in what anyone can recognize as a trap."

Strzok has been a target for House Republicans ever since a series of anti-Trump text messages he sent during the 2016 campaign became public.

Lawmakers grilled Strzok for 11 hours last week, a grueling session during which Strzok defended himself from allegations of bias. He also characterized the text messages as private remarks exchanged in the course of an intimate relationship.

Strzok told investigators that he regretted the messages to FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was having an affair.

House lawmakers in the room said he repeatedly denied showing political favoritism to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over Trump in 2016, a time when the FBI was juggling investigations related to both presidential candidates.

I expect he will refuse. After a while, the media will have the country feeling sorry for him.

Can you imagine - Secret Service agents taking boxes of documents out of the FBI building as part of a raid?

His attorneys (paid for by Fed money) will tell him not to answer.

This is a show.

Will he be under oath? Will it be another waste of time with his weasel FBI counsel whispering “tell the to F off” in his ear?

Marines.

You’d use Marines. The President would sign the warrant issued by a national security court like FISA. He’d then send in Marines to secure the building and the JAG corps would serve the warrant.

They’d have an IT detachment securing computers and paper files.

Marines answer to the President. The Secret Service wouldn’t have the juice or the jurisdiction to do this. It would be a military court most likely.

He has to show up.
He can take the 5th if he chooses.
But he has to show up.

If his attorney thinks that the testimony was distorted, he should welcome a public forum to set things straight.

He won’t testify in public. Cockroaches don’t like the light. If he is made to testify it will be a nothing burger. If we had an AG worth a crap, he’d be in an orange jump suit by now.

What is the process to indict him, following his 5th amendment plea? What charges can be proven?

Congress can’t charge him with anything criminal.
They can only make him show up for hearings.
And if he chooses to use the 5th, that is his right.
Only a prosecutor can charge him.
