I was told 45+ years ago -— by a college admissions officer! -— that “affirmative action” was a way to keep the top Universities from being “oversubscribed” with Jews in the East, Asians in the West.
The Jewish organizations argued as such in the 1977 Bakke v Regents of California case
And you know some left wing, anti Semitic admissions officers are going to look the other way as well as bigot against Caucasians and Asians.
“affirmative action was a way to keep the top Universities from being oversubscribed with Jews in the East, Asians in the West.”
If Jews and Asians are the only ones with the smarts and ethics to succeed, so be it. Somehow, I doubt that is the case. More like strict encouragement and development of early childhood habits.
Your college admissions officer was spot on.
Private colleges on the East Coast, especially the Ivies
had quotas for both Jewish students and faculty!
Although a bit too liberal for my taste, Paul Samuelson was denied a position in the economics department at Harvard because the faculty already had one Jewish faculty member.
So he went to MIT instead and helped turn it into one of the best economics departments in the world!
