Paramount Network has slotted July 30 at 10 PM for the premiere of Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story. The network also unveiled the full trailer for the six-part original docuseries, which recounts the life and legacy of Trayvon Martin, whose 2012 shooting death polarized the nation and gave rise to the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
Trayvon Martin was an unarmed 17-year-old African American high school student shot and killed by a neighborhood watch member in the Sanford, Florida community on February 26, 2012 where he was visiting a friend with his father. George Zimmerman was acquitted of a second-degree murder charge utilizing Floridas Stand Your Ground Law, claiming he shot Martin in self-defense.
The fatal encounter between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman and the subsequent trial sparked nationwide outrage and protests and shined an unforgiving light on issues including race, politics, power, money and, gun control.
Interviews combined with home videos, family photos, and news footage provide an intimate look at the story of a young life tragically cut short and that spurred a movement giving rise to a rallying cry that still resonates today, #BlackLivesMatter.
Featured in the docuseries are Trayvon Martins parents Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin; Martin family lawyer Donald Crump, Angela Rye, Reverend Al Sharpton, Angela Davis and Carmelo Anthony, among others.
Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story also addresses the significant cultural and societal issues surrounding the tragedy as well as an in-depth examination into the investigation, trial, and the not-guilty verdict.
Educate yourself. Zimmerman felt Trayvon was casing houses by walking up walkways and peering into the houses. That would get the neighborhood watch's attention just about anywhere.
I gave away my 52” hi def Sony TV over a yr ago and haven’t bothered to buy a replacement one yet as I’ve higher priority items to take care off.
Of course it will show Saint Trayvon leaving choir practice.
Anybody else notice that you don’t hear about that type of crime much anymore? Kind of threw a wet blanket on the whole knockout game thing when it was discovered that a perp could lose.
makes Maxine Waters look like a Rhodes scholar....
Actually Maxine has a small cameo role as Mother Theresa in tears over Trayvon’s treatment. Touching.
They can go to Conservativetreehouse.com for the full story.
Justice for Trayvon!!!!!!
Dig him up, shoot him again.
And I thought I was a loner in thinking roots was almost total Doo-Doo.
He was spotted off the sidewalk, in yards, including peering into the window of a home which had been recently burglarized.
Zimmerman was following him, and called into 911 to report someone suspicious, but lost him in the dark and the rain, and when asked for a better description by the dispatcher, set off on foot to check between buildings (you can clearly hear the door alarm go off in the call recording).
Meanwhile, according to the testimony of Martin's friend, Martin made it all the way home - and then went back.
The dispatcher asks Zimmerman if he is following Martin, and then tells Zimmerman that he doesn't need to do that. Zimmerman heads back towards his truck and encounters Martin, who has circled back.
Almost the entire book was made up. Haley had to pay another author for plagiarism.
Two professional genealogists researched Haley’s “Roots”. They concluded everything was false and he made a particularly serious fraud by claiming kinship to the Lea Family of Virginia when he was not.
They said his research did not even equal that of amateur genealogists. There really was a ship named the “Lord Liganeer” and there really was a slave named Tobey. They had nothing to do with each other.
The mainstream media will not report the facts, tho the info is out there.
I remember when Bill Cosby said he was having his roots researched by the greatest genealogist of all. Guess who?
A cop killer, an antisemite, and more. Such crooked con artists.
You are exactly correct. There are SO many, they are like a blur to me.
You’ve been had.
A six-part series on a run-of-the-mill thug?!
Zimmerman was doing what when he got out of his car and started following Trayvon?
Hes 14 years old. Why doesnt he have the right to be frightened and feel threatened that a grown man is following him?
Zimmerman says in the 911 call that Travon is suspicious because hes looking around. Not looking in houses.
Its raining, of course he pulled his hoodie up.
I hate everything that happened afterwards and I know the race pimps inflamed things. I know the media altered Zimmermans bloody head.
But does it not cross anyones minds that a 14 year old should not be in danger of being shot walking home from the store?
The guy police shot down in Walmart. Its an open carry state. Is this not troubling to anyone?
The problem I see here is that black people dont want to accept that the perception we have of their teen sons is somewhat an earned perception and white people never want to say, Yeah, you know, Zimmerman should have stayed in the car.
Part 1: Thug goes out to get skittles and figures he'd case out the neighborhood for something to steal.
Part 2: Thug out on a crime spree gets stopped by a guy who cares about his neighborhood.
Part 3: Thug thinks he can take the neighbor and tries to smash his head on the concrete.
Part 4: Neighbor has a surprise for the Thug and pops a cap in him.
Part 5: Liberals get all crazy about this poor Thug, and puts his baby picture on the Internet. The State of Florida gets all scared and charges the poor neighbor with murder.
Part 6: Neighbor beats the fakes charges, so the Liberals make Trayvon a hero.
This docu-series should take about 15-20 minutes from start to finish.
Except he was 17
