The cop was responding to a a report of a suicidal person call? That makes me wonder if the late principle was also the caller... and if so, that would make it premeditated murder as well... Horrible situation regardless. Prayers for the troopers family and friends...
Was he soon to be arrested for molesting a student?
Have you heard if the the state trooper was alone when he responded to the call, if he was sent without backup?

And why was a trooper from the Bath barracks responding (alone?) to a call in Corning? Why not send someone from the Coopers barracks, which is much closer?
I would hesitate to help someone suicidal because if they are willing to kill themself, then it would not be a stretch to say they wouldnt take someone with them. I understand that a suicidal person needs help, but there is a risk that no one talks about.
Did the dead perp have a degree in psychology, anyone know? Just curious.
He worked at Bradford Central Schools.
A very small district near Lamoka and Waneta Lakes.
Damned shame. His life was falling apart and he decided to “suicide by cop” and ended up killing the cop.
I wonder who made the report that the trooper responded to? Local reports have been calling it a domestic or a call for a suicidal person, depending on the media outlet. If the perp made the call, this wasn’t just a suicide.
“...at which he worked....”
Never use a preposition to end a sentence with.
I worked in both Troops F and K. The only time Troopers “double up” is on the late “2” after 11pm. In the old days when Troopers worked 8 hour tours known as A, B or C lines, Troopers only doubled up on the A line 11p-7a. There just aren’t enough Troopers to ride 2 in a Troop car 24/7, especially in Upstate Troops where patrol areas are massive. There were other Troopers and Deputies on scene however.
Years ago, my teacher-neighbor’s boss was Jay Smith. She said he was very odd and always kept his door closed.

Family Life Network is still alive and well and operating in CNY.
Exactly. Why kill the trooper?
At least he saved the state some money
Yes, I have no clue. Maybe drugs maybe nutso.
Exactly. It’s just nuts.
The estranged wife made the call, saying perp was suicidal.
