Mexico's president-elect thanks Trump, says pair will 'reach an understanding'

Mexico’s president-elect, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on Monday thanked President Trump for congratulating him on his election win and said the pair will “reach an understanding," according to The Associated Press.

López Obrador, who triumphed in Sunday’s presidential election over the ruling PRI party, is a leftist who has previously criticized Trump. He wrote a book titled "Oye, Trump" ("Listen Up, Trump"), which criticizes the U.S. president's plans to build a wall along the U.S. southern border.

Trump tweeted his congratulations to López Obrador on Monday.

"I look very much forward to working with [Lopez Obrador]," Trump tweeted on Monday. "There is much to be done that will benefit both the United States and Mexico!"

López Obrador described the congratulations as “very respectful.”

“We are never going to disrespect the U.S. government, because we want them to respect us," López Obrador said in an interview with the news network Televisa, according to the AP. “At the appropriate moment, we are going to get in touch, to reach an understanding.”

Your remark about mestizo being “borderline retarded” and of “low IQ” and all the rest was about racial make-up, not about education or where they live. It’s right there on the screen for everyone to see.

You should keep your racist remarks to yourself; they have no place in this forum.

“What Mexico is doing amounts to ethnic cleansing.”

You can tell by simply watching their frigging TV shows ... the bad guys are almost always Mestizos.

It’s not just Mexico that’s keen on getting rid of these people ... its every country down to the tip of South America.

I think the IQ comment was more by nurture vs. nature. I always hate seeing IQ used that way. There are so many factors to intelligence.

I do know that these governments, by and large, are all but telling their indigenous people to move north. They’re all but purging people from Guatemala (while anecdotal evidence is garbage, I met a guy from Guatemala that all but told me that once ... he had no reason to lie about it either ... that was also the first time I heard Q’ueqchi spoken by a native :-) (I think that’s what it’s called ... just neat hearing some kind of derivative of Mayan)).

I’ve always suspected that some of these countries are starting to realize they have some potentially good real estate and don’t want what they perceive as low class people benefiting from it.

Yeah, the understanding will be that Mexico will fund the wall one way or the other and all of its illegal invaders returned to home ground. Then and only then should consideration be given for future trade deals.

People are generally called intelligent through a wrong use of this word.
The intelligent are not those who have studied the sayings and writings of the wise men of old, but those whose soul is intelligent, who can judge what is good and what is evil; they avoid what is evil and harms the soul and intelligently care for and practice what is good and profits the world, greatly thanking God. -St. Anthony the Ascetic

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”
Calvin Coolidge

Persistence and determination!
A common trait of most of the male Hispanics I have worked with.
Two brothers worked for me for many years, Just the three of us working late on a Friday, I had to go to an upper floor and noticed a nearby farm field had been picked clean but many tomatoes had since ripened.
One went to the farmhouse and they said help your self.
I agreed to help, thinking they just wanted a bushel or two.
They had lined up every box, bucket, bag and more than a few trash cans from the building!
I had to ask to return the trash cans, they would be missed.
They totally filled both cars, only leaving enough room for the driver! Barely, the driver’s seat was max forward.
I should have known.
They said, the family was visiting for the weekend and this was a Godsend!

I still kid them about it at company shindigs.
You could only imagine the volume of tomatoes!

Agreed. It has always been thus.

Yes, of course they’ll reach an understanding: We’ll build the wall, you don’t come over here.
