In wake of Red Hen controversy, demonstrators rally support in Lexington for President Trump

LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) Hundreds of people, representing several different groups, gathered in Lexington Saturday for demonstrations sparked by the actions of a restaurant owner.

Motorcycles roared down East Washington Street as dozens lined the sidewalk, holding signs with sayings like "The Red Hen laid a rotten egg."

Nearly everyone who came out for a series of rallies was there to show support for President Trump, after the owner of the Red Hen asked his chief spokesperson to leave the restaurant more than a week ago.

"That was the straw that broke the camel's back and set us off and made us say 'we've got to come down to this town," explained Douglas Thompson of "Bikers For Trump," a group founded to rally support for President Trump and other conservative politicians.

"Our message is (we) need to start showing respect for the President of the United States," Thompson said.

Also on hand were members of a group called The Patriot Picket, a group that primarily advocates for Second Amendment Rights.

Corey Stewart, the man recently nominated by Republicans to run against Tim Kaine in this year's Senate race, also showed up to share his thoughts on what happened at The Red Hen.

"The left in this country has gone so crazy," Stewart told WDBJ7. "Tim Kaine and the Democrats are upset with the President and the fact that he's been so successful."

At least one person stood among those rallying for the President to show support for the owner of The Red Hen.

"I'm very impressed with this woman," said Vanessa Billings, a woman who traveled from Baltimore to show her support for The Red Hen and its owner. "It was a very brave thing to do. She is suffering economically from it."

Red Hen owner said (last week) the restaurant was closed until July 5th. I don’t know if this has changed. Have not seen any new news specifically on this.

They have always had a few professors of fudgepackery. Now that it’s a predominately liberal arts school, I suspect moreso these days

W&L as Virginia liberal arts-oriented university\colleges go is considered to be pretty conservative.

In keeping up with recent leftist lexicon choices, I believe them to now be feckless “hunt” hats...

The pics of the outside of the building showed that Trump was right!

Very Dirty.

It might take a week to spruce up the exterior.

Intuitively obvious. A big crowd by its very nature impedes people from driving or walking past.

Simple as that.

Has nothing to do with peaceable (not peaceful...pet peeve of mine). Simple logistics.

It was a farm town basically, near Baltimore. Not over many people of color ever. It’s been gentrified in a sense but it depends on your meaning. I don’t consider a bunch of hippies necessarily gentrified.

Vanessa Billings, she is suffering economically, because she is a moron. She alienated half of her customers. As a businessman, I don’t care if a) you support Hillary, b) gay or transgendered, c) Black, Asian or Caucasian or d) if you believe you are a firetruck, your money is acceptable.

Ellicott City a farm city?

Clearly a Mill Towm, and early rail junction/terminus.

My point being: Howard county was a FARM county, and EC its commerce center. That is where people shopped for all kinds of things from hardware to groceries to car service. Until Columbia poisoned the well.

I am well aware of my hometown’s history. The point is what was the culture.

A Republican Owner of a Restaurant doing the same to the Female Press Secretary of a Democrat President would be a Brave Act, as in his Business being burnt to the ground and Death Threats against him and his Family. Oh yea, forgot to mention the inevitable Lawsuit taken out against him by the ACLU.

When you control the Media like Liberals do, they have no need of bravery.

VMI used to be conservative. Currently, compared to other academic institutions, it could be considered somewhat conservative, but it is heading left.

Even when I was there, VMI had its fair share of lefty academics. However, the administration and the corps were mostly right leaning. Now, the administration is infected with liberalism, up to and including the superintendent, who has stayed way past his shelf life.

Simple as what? There was nothing in the posted article and it's photos that substantiate your claim.

With that being said, you could help you ridiculous claim if you addressed my question to in you Post #55......

Epic fail Ollie........

It’s been a couple of decades since my husband and father and I visited. I’ve always admired Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee. It’s a shame that the liberals are stinking up the place. It’s an absolute beautiful drive from where I live in NC.

First off, I did not see any photo on your post using iPad, so your question implied the subject article. Now on a real computer, I see it.

It’s a protest, but yes, see the logistics of them blocking the sidewalks. Not TRYING to impede people, but it just does, as surely as crowds on “Black Friday” or in NYC. Again, that has NOTHING to do with “peaceable” or not. It just IS.

Don’t make so much of my comments, like I’m some antiFa commie or something.

The point is I don’t really want every personal offense turning into a free-for-all “flash mob” showing up and disrupting every-day life for every average person. Libs have already been trying this as it is, flash-mobbing to every person’s home who might’ve offended them, never mind a business in town.

Better to have out-and-out fighting, as that is what it will lead to anyway.

Corey Stewart, who strongly supports President Trump, is the Republican nominee, who is opposing Tom Kaine in November, was at the Red Hen to demonstrate.

They say he is getting no support from the RNC and that’s a shame. I think he is a good man and an excellent nominee.

Incidentally, Bikers for Trump were there also, I think.
