“If only! “
Kennedy was put in by Reagan. He was supposed to be a reliable conservative. But, sometimes the package lies and the product inside is not as advertised.
On the other hand, Ginsberg is 84 and looks like she could play in “Weekend at Bernie’s.” So, there could easily be yet another seat to fill before Trump’s first four years are up. If Trump makes it eight years, then the chances of filling her seat go WAY up.
Over the years, they’ve gotten better at vetting judges.
Go back to the 1950’s and the vetting was awful — politican Earl Warren got a SC appointment as a political pay-off, and Brennan had no Constitutional track record by which to judge him, having only been a NJ state judge for a few years.
Get to the eighties and it’s better vetting, but you still get Souter (a disaster) and Kennedy (turned out to be a social liberal).
Come to today, and I think Trump’s list of 25 have been more thoroughly vetted than ever before, by track record, personal character, and personal relationships with conservative court-watchers.
I’m confident we’ll get an “original intent” judge appointed by Trump.
