“Is there anyone left on this site who cares about what making these cuts permanent does to the projected deficit?”

I hope not, because that is a Leftist mentality.

The government is too big, and spends too much.

Whether this excess spending is financed by tax or by deficit it harms the private economy.

As a result of Leftist propaganda, most people do not understand this, and believe the deficits are worse than the excess taxation. The Leftists use this as a fear of deficits as a tactic to trick non leftist “fiscal conservatives” into raising taxes to avoid deficits, or into not cutting taxes if they will “cause” deficits.

I put the word cause in quotes to emphasize the point that tax cuts are not the cause of deficits, spending I excess of revenues is what causes deficits.

mane no mistake: deficits are bad. The point is that the cure for deficits is always reducing spending, NOT raising taxes. Past tax hikes have created an umbrella for excessive spending for decades, and the only way to restore the balance is cutting both spending and taxes.

The correct fiscal policy is to cut both taxes and spending - but second best is to cut taxes even if deficits rise. Then be honest with the American people and blame deficits not on the tax cuts, but on the excess spending - and elect politicians who will address the true cause.

The very worst policy is to to use deficit reduction to justify excessive taxes.

So I say, damn the torpedos, full tax cuts ahead!

The economy is in the best shape it's been probably since before I was born and we're on track for a trillion dollar deficit. And you want to increase that? Double it? Triple it? Really?

I don't disagree with you at all that tax cuts have to be married with spending cuts. But that's not happening. How about Congress show that they can reign in spending before reducing revenue even more?

Of course.

Unfortunately, we citizens seem to like some of the things that spending brings.

That's why we don't reelect politicians who take those things away from us.

A responsible policy is to recognize that reality and generate revenues that match the spending the politicians (and citizens) authorize.

An irresponsible policy is to take what you want - tax cuts - and blame someone else for the spending that you know is taking place.
