Five people have died and several others are hurt after a shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper building in Annapolis, Maryland, local and federal officials say.
The names of the dead were not released immediately. The suspected shooter is in custody, and authorities are questioning him, officials said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.
"I don't know what to say other than our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families, and we take comfort knowing that they are in God's embrace," Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh said.
Injured victims are being treated at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma in Baltimore and Anne Arundel Medical Center, the county executive said. Several are "gravely injured," Schuh said.
The shooter opened fire at 888 Bestgate Road, and the call for an active shooter came in at 2:34 p.m, Capt. Russell Davies with the Anne Arundel EMS confirmed to NBC News.
First responders arrived within 60 seconds, Gov. Larry Hogan said.

A couple of news helicopters are flying around there too. I live in Annapolis, but not near there. Waiting for the news conference....

Live in the area this paper is NOT Trump friendly. How bad for them, then.

White guy in his 20s apparently by a bunch of sources. Milo is being called out for saying to go kill journalists. Not smart at all. These shooting do not help anything. It just gets the liberals more excited to vote.

Figures. I hope the guy is a liberal. Last thing we need after a decent week is for it to be a conservative.

No, Annapolix is not extremely liberal
Not like Baltimore and PG
We have a GOP governor who lives less than 2 miles from shooting
Had until recently a GOP mayor
MD republicans like the Governor however are mostly never-Trumpers

Phil Davis, a crime reporter for the newspaper, tweeted that the gunman had shot through a glass door in the office. There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while youre under your desk and then hear the gunman reload. I wonder if that office allows Concealed Carry. Perp would be down and out when he stopped to reload.

“...Mid 20s, white male long stringy hair. HMM?...”
How about this: He gets tried, convicted of multiple murders, hanged, cremated and ashes disposed of by the end of next week.
We never see his face or name, and never read his testimonials or hear of his difficult childhood.
Just let us know a murderer has found justice.

Our state capitol has 40,000 people
More like a town
The Capital Gazette more like a hometown newspaper
50 employees I think
