Since nothing has been said about the perp, there are two possibilities:

1.) Most probably they don’t know much.

2.) Or else the perp is a Democrat.

Did the newspaper have any layoffs recently? Inspector Clouseau might guess that it's either a disgruntled employee or domestic violence.

I don't recall hearing about the newspaper until today. And I did live in MD for a couple of years during the Reagan Administration.
