Regardless of what you think about it, in 1987 a young Donald Trump got a letter from former President Nixon telling him that Pat saw him on TV and thought he would win if he decided to run for president. Trump had recently before that shared a private flight with Nixon. In his 1990 book, Surving at the Top, Trump recalled Nixon telling fascinating stories about world events and politics on the trip. He also praised Nixon for his “toughness.”
