I think the USSC has adjourned for the session anyway. He may not retire until his replacement is confirmed at any rate. Not sure of the details.

Thomas will be the next to retire. He has voiced a desire to get out for family reasons

RBG will not voluntiarly retire save her failing health which isnt as dire as conventional wisdom would have you bekieve

The great worry is Trump caves and nominates a less than pure bread constitutionalist to get him/her confirmed

Recall Bush 43 punted on nominating Scalia as Chief Justice, which he should have done, naming Roberts to the spot to avoid two confirmations. I was livid he slighted Scalia. The ACA might have suffered its deserved fate had Scalia been CJ
