A group of 15 public sector unions, warned the court in a friend of the court brief that eliminating fair-share fees would eviscerate public sector unions, depriving them of resources they need to perform their essential public functions.

Yeah....that's kinda the idea. Lefties may be dumb, but they're not stupid.

Maybe, just MAYBE, if these unions were using their "resources" to actually negotiate for raises or help provide something tangible and direct to their members, instead of using the member dues to bribe corrupt politicians and to help get your average unacceptable support politician elected for "future leverage," then people wouldn't be trying to force you to quit spending their money on things the members do NOT WANT!
