“We are already in a cold civil war, make no mistake.”
I agree.
But steps can be taken to dim down the hate.
Firstly, and I’ve been saying this for years, force cable companies to stop bundling channels - we all get charged $100. extra each month for crap that a) we don’t ever watch; and b) offends us. It galls me that even a few dollars a month from my cable bill goes directly to CNN or MSNBC. If we could pick and choose what channels we wanted, I’m sure the MSM would soon shrivel on the vine for lack of a true viewing audience.
Get rid of “must carry”. Cable companies are forced by law to carry the local big 3 (ABC NBC and CBS) in their local market. Again get rid of it.
These two small steps wold effectively crush the MSM.
The problem is the internet and social media.
Back around the turn of the century I was posting here and it dawned on me: Imagine the internet was around during WWII. After every battle in the battle of Britain, you’d have germans and british goading each other on forums. “You sure dropped a lot of bombs on London. Too bad you didn’t hit anything.” Etc.
The problem is that all the walls between the two sides are removed. Television did this as well. It used to be that the poor lived in their poor neighborhoods and made do, and could actually be quite happy. If you have a roof, clothing and food, everything else really is relative.
Then everyone got a TV. The poor were inundated with commercials for products they could never hope to afford. They got depressed and eased the pain with drugs. Sure, this is VERY simplistic, but you get the idea.
The sides are constantly in each other’s faces on social media and forums, and the left is acting out whenever they lose. And the more they lose, the more they act out, causing them to lose more. And they can’t win arguments on the internet because their position is based on emotion.
So this will pop. The only question is when.
“Cable companies”
Yup, they have become part of the problem instead of part of the solution—and I used to work in that industry before CNN went over to the dark side.
I like your idea. I have basic+. No FOX or CNN. But for some reason its got MSNBC and few Gay Channels. I blanked them out so the grandkids cant see them.
I download whatever I want from the internet for free with no commercials. I get Sling for 4 months per year just for college football. Then I drop it. I watch tons of movies and programs.
Buy a $40 Roku stick and subscribe to Netflix, Hulu or Sling and watch all of the TV you want, when you want it for only $30 a month plus your internet provider fee.
Steaming TV shows and movies is the best way to go now. Saves me almost $180 a month by dumping DirecTV.
