Dress to blend in so they think you're one of them and take lots of pictures and video.
If they believe you're one of them they'll freely speak their minds.
Get it on video.
If they threaten violence or get violent you'll have their faces to identify later. Post the video on youtube.
Show the world what they really are.

Agreed. I don't "do" protests, never have.
If you are in a liberal state, the antifa hooligans, who individually are pajama boys, will come out en masse wearing black masks and other black clothing. They will attack camera persons and anyone they think disagrees with them. The police will be ordered by civil authorities to look the other way, or not be present when they are beating up conservatives. The media, as usual, will not report what actually happens and will not report who starts the attacks.
Better not to be there. Do not fight unless you know you can win.
