DOJ delivers Russia probe documents to Congress

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has given additional classified documents related to the Russia investigation to House Republicans, some of whom said the materials are insufficient.

A spokeswoman for Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told The Associated Press that officials provided more than one-thousand documents related to the origin of the FBI’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

AshLee Strong told the news service that the DOJ will receive additional time to provide other outstanding documents requested by House Republicans.

Additionally, the DOJ wrote to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) on Friday notifying him that it had sent a classified letter to his committee about whether the FBI used “confidential human sources” before formally starting the Russia investigation, according to the AP.

The letter relates to President Trump’s claims that the FBI embedded an informant in his campaign in 2016. He has dubbed the unfounded claim “spygate,” despite multiple Republicans saying they found no indication of wrongdoing by the FBI.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) indicated on Saturday that the additional documents did little to diffuse tensions between lawmakers and DOJ officials.

"New reports of DOJ/FBI compliance with document requests are NOT accurate. While they have turned over additional documents, the new documents represent a small percentage of what they owe," Meadows, who leads the conservative House Freedom Caucus, tweeted.

"The notion that DOJ/FBI have been forthcoming with Congress is false," he added.

While the conservative lawmakers have received thousands of documents from the agency, they say they have not been able to review key documents nor have they received as many documents as they've requested, leading to rising tensions between Republicans and federal officials.

Nothing will happen. The congress isn’t going to do a damn thing. It never does.

The FBI won’t cooperate and refuses to be accountable.

The congress is pathetically weak.

The president makes no effort to put an end to this outrageous nonsense.

The people ELECTED to run the government are being manipulated and stonewalled by UNELECTED bureaucrats. Something is terribly wrong here.

Especially since the House leader quit and is just hanging around to collect a paycheck.

Ryan is certainly a big part of the problem. And of course the GOP is naturally weak; that never changes.

But the DOJ is supposedly an agency within the executive branch of government and it refuses to comply with the lawful oversight responsibilities of the congress. This sets a terrible precedent as other executive branch agencies can do the same thing. So we are left with unaccountable agencies run by unelected bureaucrats. This cannot stand.

They are still playing you, Congressman Nunes.
Time to call them on it.

You have now drawn three lines in the sand, and they’ve violated all of them. You must now put teeth into your threats.

Impeach the bastards! All of them. Now. Prove to the American people that you are NOT part of the deep state swamp.

Right now I’d be happy to see just the DOJ Swamp drained. It would be a good start, but sadly it does not seem to be a priority.

The DOJ did not comply with the subpoena. All documents is not just a few. The DOJ, with Sessions at it's head, are as bad as most communists Democrats. If the stupid Republicans do not hold the DOJ in contempt, I'm done.

Contempt of Congress is a joke. The President needs to fire people and Congress needs to take an axe to their budget. This goes on because there are no real consequences.

They aren't being manipulated and stonewalled. The Congress doesn't actually want to do anything. Both sides are playing their parts in this Kabuki. They act like the town drunk .... ok officer, I'm moving... I'm mvoing just as fast as I can.

Now, back to Melania's jacket...

I’m sure they turned over all the information that will send them to jail.

Correct on both accounts. But all we get is talk and empty threats.

I support Trump, but I also support accountability in government. Time to see some tangible actions to restore oversight of our federal agencies.

Delay, delay, delay until the November elections.

And even if the Republicans rescue themselves from certain loss (due to the Ryan amnesty plan) they will not punish a single DOJ or FBIO criminal.

“The letter relates to President Trump’s claims that the FBI embedded an informant in his campaign in 2016. He has dubbed the unfounded claim ‘spygate,’ despite multiple Republicans saying they found no indication of wrongdoing by the FBI.”

Unfounded claim? You mean like the premise of a $20 Million witch-hunt because of suspected “collusion”.

It appears to me that the problem lies with Ryan and others, not Nunes.

Ryan won't help. Sessions is afraid to help. Both are destroying the party and the country.

It's up to the president now to get it done.
