What's the deal with Mormons? You talk to one, and they sound like good, sound Conservatives, solid people....but you dig a little deeper, they're plastic.

then their politics...talk a good show, but go all Harry Reid on you in certain situations.

Well, having been raised (well sort of, my sister and I were sent to church) a Mormon, I can tell you first-hand, that you can’t be a Christmas and Easter Mormon, like you can be a Catholic. You are either in, or you’re out. So I opted, after I left home, to be OUT! I think, like most religions, there is an attempt to, to indoctrinate, and subjugate you, and force you to conform to someone’s idea of a system of beliefs. As you have found, Mormons, by and large are very decent, honest, hard-working folks. What you call “plastic,” is just their blind obedience to Mormonism. As a consequence, you will see “Brother Romney” win “Brother Hatch’s” Senate seat. But that’s not unusual in other places where some sect holds the majority. And you see it in Nevada and Arizona too, because both states have large Mormon populations. My wife grew up in Las Vega, which oddly enough was originally settled by Mormons. When we were first married, the line on Las Vegas was that the Jews owned it, and the Mormons ran it, and that’s still true to some degree today, even though it’s grown from less than 100,000 in 1966 to more than 2.5 million today.
When I was a kid, the Mormon Church was solidly Republican. I remember when Richard Nixon visited the church hierarchy, they offered him their support. Now though, you get POS like Harry Reid (who oddly is married to a Jew, who has not converted to Mormonism so far as I know), along with other RAT Mormons like the Udalls who hang out in AZ, NM and CO, and others who’s names escape me at the moment.
But the takeaway should be that you can count on Mormons in government to adopt policies that are in harmony with their church’s teachings. That said, Romney seems to be an outlier, who has managed to be at odds with some of the church’s closely held beliefs, and yet still manages to stay in their good graces.
