No wait longer than 5 minutes in S UT. I was completely shocked the first time, coming from WDC several years ago. And...the staff are pleasant, respectful and helpful. That was a breath of fresh air. In WDC they acted like you were bothering them or “dissing” them.
Next time, if you can go to the North Bay, try Novato DMV.
It’s much smaller. Even if waiting, not usually more than two hours. Do NOT go to the Corte Madera DMV, it is still quite the slo-motion circus.
I happened to drive by a DMV today and there was a long line outside the building in 99 degree heat.
It sucks when you are new to a state when they prioritize current residents, first.
Can you get the CA real ID from the AAA?
I live there as well. I joke about the “backward Southern States” because we are not as backwards as the Northern Monkeys and libtards think we are. I have had nothing but good experiences with the dmv. I moved here in 2003, got a license, and have only had to go back to the dmv once to renew it and that was because they would only renew it by mail once. After that you had to get a picture taken and that took about 15 minutes total time. The last license I got is good for 6 years.
Then these SOBs are now jacking up registrations on old cars and new cars. You'll now pay WAY more on an older vehicle than ya did just a year ago. Significantly more, with zero benefit in return. The vehicle is older, but pay more! You get less money the corrupt DMV union stooges get bonuses, .gov expands...on and on and on and on. And on and on.☺
Last time I had to go to a CA DMV it was like walking into a Mexican bull fight, packed, coming out the doors of that filthy building. Everyone working there had a major attitude, everyone speaking Spanish...Just disgusting. California dreaming is right.
MUCH quicker in Spanish...

'A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.'
Speak for yourself. I never voted/supported any of these corrupt leftists.
I don't think I said you did.
And this is the same type of outfit that wanted to take over our health insurance.
I didn’t know that about AAA - thanks! (Member since 1979). Here in Washington state things are pretty good since they allowed private firms to handle the stuff. Drop in, a few minutes wait and you’re done. And this was before they enacted some new law that raised our tabs 100% or something. (I think that was to combat global warming. Or to enhance the liberal coffers. I forget which.)
It seemed all inclusive. I misinterpreted. In any event, knowing what ya know know about this government which has clearly been run by criminally corrupt, do you trust the election process in extreme leftist states like CA, and at the national election level? I don’t.
“PA isn’t exactly on the cutting edge of progress but you can renew on line...only reason to go to a DMV is for the picture-taking. Takes about 15 minutes every four years. “
The first time you get a Real-ID compliant license it might be longer. You have to bring a birth certificate and other “documentation.”
That being said, when I got my first Texas license in Lamar County this year, it took about a half-hour. :)
We have express DMVs, you have to pay extra and drive 60 miles but it is worth it.
You can also drive to several small towns and get good, quick service for no extra charge.
BTW, if you don't want to get the real ID, you can get one of the non-compliant illegal alien drivers license and use your passport to board planes and enter federal buildings
