Correct, if it wasn’t for his father and grandfather he NEVER would have received an appointment to the Navy Academy.
If it wasn’t for his father and grandfather he would likely have been flunked (or forced to resign) from the Academy before graduation.
If it wasn’t for his father and grandfather he NEVER would have been selected for flight school. Who ever has heard of a midshipman being selected for flight training when graduating 3rd or 4th from the bottom in class rank?
If it wasn’t for his father and grandfather he almost certainly would have been grounded PERMANENTLY after his many displays of poor flying skills, his unsafe hot-dogging, his repeated displays of poor judgement and his crashing of Naval aircraft.
