One other aspect of self driving cars is, what are you supposed to do while sitting in one? People (like myself) who are prone to motion sickness won’t be reading, watching TV, or doing much else. They’ll just be sitting there, trying to avoid nausea. Car drivers typically do not get motion sickness.
You ride on the back of a rain train, comrade. You don’t need to personally take your people mover on a highway. Big State will move it there for you.
Just wait until they start restricting where it will take you. Too many people at the mall, trip request denied. Vacation too far away, trip request denied. Election day and a registered republican, trip request denied. You will only be allowed to go where the programmers allow you to go. Your movements can easily be restricted with a download.
I will never understand why people would ever want to give up their freedom for a gadget.
