The only assassination I’m aware of before even the mid-terms of the first term is McKinley. They think they have Trump on the ropes. But the way assassination usually works is you have one crazy person attracting all the attention, while the cabal that wants the assassination has a professional hit man on the grassy knoll, quietly waiting for the right moment. So perhaps they’re revving up the crazies to look for just the right one, but the actual assassination would come much later, once the crazy’s primed and the pro is hired.
