The long-awaited showdown between the Justice Department and Congress is finally here.
It started late Friday afternoon. While the rest of the country was parsing the just-released report on the FBI from the Justice Departments inspector general, senior congressional leaders and selected committee chairmen quietly met with FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein at a secure location in the basement of the Capitol.
At issue was Justice and FBIs continuing defiance of congressional subpoenas. At the top of this list is the demand from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for documents about why and whether the FBI had an informant insinuating himself with Trump campaign officials before the Russia investigation officially started.

The part about going thru the US Atty and a grand jury is the modern, dumb, lazy, way to do it. Used to be a purely Article I process just as judicial contempt just needs the judge to act.
Impeachment of Rosenstein is possible, but there will never be 67 votes for conviction. The Constitution requires 2/3 of those present to vote for conviction or there is no conviction.
In my opinion, there is no way any Senators would not be present for the conviction vote.
Rosenstein knows he is secure.
Can you please pass whatever you are smoking?
it exposes the level of corruption on both sides sadly
Congress can imprison Wray and Rosenstien for contempt, and use some room within the building for that purpose. They can then take away his cell phone or monitor all his phone calls that are not with his attorney, which he would have to pay for.
Remember, this is mostly posturing. Gaetz knows that impeachment in the House is a seven step, time-consuming process. But that’s the easy part. No way the Senate is going to convict & remove RR. But getting to that would be another six months or so.
As I keep saying, Congress has NO power over DOJ, save next budget cycle if they choose to withhold funds then.
“Rosenstein and Mueller both have their butts covered six ways to Sunday....”
I suspect their degree of butt coverage nose dived the day HRC failed to get elected POTUS, and then suffered subsequent erosion each time their prospects for removing Trump decrease.
However well positioned they may have been to cover each other’s tracks, their original calculations certainly did not include weathering eight years of Trump. Furthermore, no secrets are completely safe as long as there are co-conspirators who know where the bodies are buried. He who Rats first Rats best.
With the blue wave looking not so blue, and pieces of the Spy Gate puzzle beginning to fall in place, I really can’t believe RR would feel confident enough to double down at this point.
I think he has long since cut a deal in exchange for cooperating in various sting operations to net Spy Gate big fish - if so, that could also be an alternate explanation for his foot dragging behavior.
