I reside in a Southern state (Tennessee) and have been a resident here for 30 years. I’m astounded at the level of coarseness exhibited by society in general. It isn’t a north or south thing. Not only language, manners, but it also extends to upkeep on their homes, their respect for public property, etc. The thing is that you can’t just “tune” it out. When out in public one sees things printed on t-shirts or exhibited on bumper stickers that would have gotten you arrested a few years back. No way to escape this.
Yes, the culture is extremely coarse as proven by this disgusting story. I”m trying to get away from increasingly high taxes on no return, Arabs taking over a neighborhood that was once a refuge of Holocaust survivors and a NYC whose rents are increasingly nutty. (Not to mention an insane mayor and city council.) I know where I’m going - I have the neighborhood picked out. No place is perfect but this place has my name written on it.
Add to that gang graffiti, extrement and urine on streets, people living in tents all over, crazy loons screaming at the sky with terror in their faces, bums everywhere, people gunned down on city streets...the whole nation seems to have turned to sh!t in five decades. Liberalism, moral relativism, belief that no culture or “lifestyle” is better than another — this is what 60 or more years of Democrat control has done.
True.
I keep telling people that it is foolish to think people can hide behind a dotted line on a map from the cancer of Leftism.
It is everywhere, even in places like Texas, and it isn’t all people coming from out of state as so many like to say. It is everywhere, and if we want to keep this republic, they will have to be excised from our lives.
We need to do to Leftists what Joseph McCarthy did to Communists for several decades: we need to make it disreputable.
Before Joseph McCarthy began his crusade against communists in the government in 1950, for someone to have communist leanings was more of a personal peccadillo, something people might have dabbled in in their younger days and had sympathy for in their older days. Much the way we have given leeway to college kids who dabble in leftist sympathies while in high school or college.
McCarthy did the right thing and made being a sympathizer of that corrosive, murderous, and anti-American ideology a shameful thing. That took us well into the Sixties and early Seventies and bought us some time.
We need to do the same thing with Leftism. We are going to have to excise it from American society. It has long since stopped being the “opposing” party and taken the mantle of the anti-American party.
