I am into my seventh decade now, and I find no shortage of good new music to listen to.

There is just so much great 21st century stuff out there once you get outside the commercial pop and rock strait jackets:

Dave Alvin, Eleni Mandell, Kelly Joe Phelps, Pokey LaFarge, the Avett Brothers, the Steeldrivers, Bela Fleck, Nickel Creek, Charlie Parr, Jorma Kaukonen, Lucinda Williams, Popa Chubby, Tab Benoit, Chip Taylor, Gilliam Welch, Iris Dement, Junior Brown, Neko Case, the Mavericks, the Wailin Jennys, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Frank Vignola, Mark O' Connor, Tommy Emmanuel, John Hiatt, Stan Ridgway, the Blasters, Todd Snider, Chuck Prophet, the Iguanas . . . I could easily list thirty more.

Very good point.

I'd just say it doesn't have to be recent -- I can find a new-to-me 30 (or more) yr. old tune with a little different style than what I'm used to (or maybe a different style for that musician or group) and like it a lot. See my comment about Shirley Bassey, above.

(I'll have to check out about 2/3 of those names you listed, now...)

:-)

Never heard of any of these groups, but these days with the personal assistants you just say “play ___” and the playlist of any group is available for sampling.

Also you can pick a type of music and let the playlist play—if you like the music you ask what it is—and you have a new group and/or song you like.

There is actually an overwhelming amount of great choices out there for all kinds of tastes.

Same here. Added New Age and exotic acoustic in the 70s. By late 70s went back and got the rock operas, then the jazz quartets. The 80s brought the Space Music / Electronic, then in the late 80s the Irish/Celtic and World Music. The 90s was my classical revival which eventually as added Opera and choral after Y2K. ‘05 brought a blues revival. Right now it is everything that a harmonica can do and that is a lot.

BFL, I'll pick through those. My music player will run for 47 days straight 24/7 without repeating. I'm hoping to get to 50 days soon.

My tastes are pretty expansive. Last the groups I ordered disks of were Kruger Brothers, Panic at the Disco!, and Willie Nelson.
