Trump associate Roger Stone reveals new contact with Russian national during 2016 campaign
Washington Post ^ | 06 17 2018 | Manuel Roig-Franzia and Rosalind S. Helderman

One day in late May 2016, Roger Stone — the political dark sorcerer and longtime confidant of Donald Trump — slipped into his Jaguar and headed out to meet a man with a Make America Great Again hat and a viscous Russian accent.

The man, who called himself Henry Greenberg, offered damaging information about Hillary Clinton, Trump’s presumptive Democratic opponent in the upcoming presidential election, according to Stone who spoke about the previously unreported incident in interviews with The Washington Post. Greenberg, who did not reveal the information he claimed to possess, wanted Trump to pay $2 million for the political dirt, Stone said.

“You don’t understand Donald Trump,” Stone recalled saying before rejecting the offer at a restaurant in the Russian-expat magnet of Sunny Isles, Fla. “He doesn’t pay for anything.”

Later, Stone got a text message from Michael Caputo, a Trump campaign communications official who’d arranged the meeting after Greenberg had approached Caputo’s Russian-immigrant business partner.

“How crazy is the Russian?” Caputo wrote according to a text message reviewed by The Post. Noting that Greenberg wanted “big” money, Stone replied: “waste of time.”

The last time Michael Caputo testified when he was done, he said, Mueller was going after Roger Stone.

Is THIS the rumor Mueller has been following? Is this what started this investigation?

That people knew Russia offered Trump dirt on Hillary for money?

One way to know about a rumor like this is to be part of the group that tried to set up the sting.

Somebody offered to sell him dirt about his political opponent and he turned it down. So what? Do the Leftists think this is some sort of “gotcha” moment? Firstly campaigns get offered dirt about opponents for money all the time. Secondly, he.....wait for it.....TURNED IT DOWN.

Let me see if I understand this: Some Russian guy offers to sell dirt to the Trump campaign. The Trump campaign refuses the offer.

This is absolute proof that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians.

OK. Got it.

Skulduggery with Russians in the background.

Still no provable collusion. Trump haters are grasping for straws.

Has Trump ever confirmed he’s close to Roger Stone or is that jut the fevered imagination of Stone and the Post?

Just asking because Stone is self-stroking nutcase.

With the Washington Post and the New York Times, you often have to read to the end of the story to find the full lede.

So this guy was an FBI operative:

-- Between 2008 and 2012 Greenberg was permitted to enter the United States under a so-called “significant public benefit parole” and the documents list an FBI agent as a contact person.

-- Greenberg stated he worked as an informant for the US government for 17 years.

-- The FBI agent provocateur started by making a run at Caputo, then moved to Stone.

So which Russian oligarchs is this guy close to? The same ones that are close to the Clintons?

How unbelievably dirty. The FBI makes banana republics look like good in comparison.

And then cover it all up from victims, Congress and the public under the cover of "national security."

Jeff Sessions, you are a coward.

We all can play this game now, what fun!

Want to damage your political opponent, even after they beat you?

Just set up ‘a meeting’ with one of their staff and bring along someone with an eastern-European accent. Offer dirt on their opponent (yourself) for mega-cash.

It doesn’t really matter if they sniff or bite on the offer for dirt.

The fact that they supposedly heard an offer is all it takes to shout collusion and conspiracy later. And that makes the candidate or official - guilty until proven otherwise and subjects them to a rabbit-holed witch hunt.

Let the games begin.

The FBI agent provocateur's real name is Vostretsov, according to the Moscow Times article:

But for Gennady Vostretsov, an alleged conman accused of defrauding victims of millions of dollars on both sides of the Atlantic, the party seems to be over after almost 10 years on the run.

Vostretsov, 42, was arrested in December and charged with defrauding a Krasnodar-based firm called C-Trade of $2.7 million in the early 1990s.

snip

He has a long criminal record stretching back to the late 1970s. In 1979, he was imprisoned for a year for failing to pay alimony and for passport violations. In 1981, a court in the Volga River city of Tolyatti sentenced him to three years for illegal trading of goods. And in 1985, a Moscow court put him behind bars for five years for attempted large-scale fraud.

snip

His subsequent movements are unclear, but investigators believe that he went to the United States on an immigration visa and lived there for more than five years.

Russia has not been sending its best.

I think the Trump campaign briefly engaged Stone back in 2015; someone put them wise (or perhaps DJT had a bad feeling) and they severed ties with him. IIRC he was involved with the campaign for a month or two at most.

The headline is designed to give the impression that it’s something bad. It should read: “Trump associate tells Russian to pound sand”.
