I may well be total ignoramus in asking this, but since when have civilian judges had this much authority to meddle in military matters?

Like the travel ban Trump ceded executive power to the Judiciary the moment he appealed an outrageous Judges intervention to a another Judge so now military and immigration matters are subject to renegade Judges . Nice

You make a good point. The Uniform Code of Military Justice covers the military not civilian law. This judge needs to push off.
