Extinguishing the Beacon of America(hurl alert)
The Atlantic ^ | June 15th2018 | ALEX WAGNER

In early May, I traveled to McAllen, Texas, to speak with U.S. Border Patrol about the current immigration crisis. It was a humid, overcast morning and Chris Cabrera, the agency’s spokesperson, stood on the banks of the Rio Grande as he explained the challenges posed by the current wave of migrants entering the country illegally, most of whom are refugees fleeing deadly violence and institutional failure in Central America. “You have a lot of women and children that are coming here. I’ve seen groups of 20, 25 people that are all women, or all girls, age 15 and below.”

Cabrera was anguished about the surge in illegal entries. “We have this beacon that says you can come in, and we will take you, right?” he said. “So what does that do? That activates people.”

Throughout our conversation, Cabrera returned to what he called “the beacon”—in this case, the promise of freedom that was luring children and their families across the border. “When you find an 11-year-old in the brush, dead, alone, and you could see that he’s got his little Pokemon belt on, it breaks your heart,” he said. “At what point do we turn off this beacon?”

But that beacon is the idea of America—the promise of a better life, of freedom from persecution. How might anyone possibly extinguish the idea of America?

The Trump administration seems to have come up with its answer in the current “zero tolerance” policy for migrant families, one that appears to be based in deterrence. Practically, this means that, for the families making the dangerous journey to the U.S. border, what awaits them is not respite, but trauma: the separation of families and the potential deportation of parents without their children. It is a clarion call to those considering migration north—here,

If these Central America people are fleeing violence is their country, then why not just stay in Mexico...It’s outside their “war torn” country...

Most of this is utter BS.......

No, Alex. It’s the beacon of Free S***. That’s what needs to be turned off. The only “free” stuff they should get is a few days in a detention center followed by a swift deportation right back into Mexico.

This situation is entirely the fault of the Mexican Government. They could stop this today. It’s long past time we play hardball with them. Shut off all “aid” to them.

Slap a 25% tax on ALL remittances to any nation south of the Rio Grande.

If that doesn’t stop them raise it to 50%.

“”for the families making the dangerous journey to the U.S. border, what awaits them is not respite, but trauma: the separation of families and the potential deportation of parents without their children. It is a clarion call to those considering migration north—here,””

So that alone should give them reason to stay in their own countries BUT have to admit, they’d make perfect Democrat voters being that ignorant or is it just plain dumb? Doesn’t word get back about the perils of making that trip?

Heck - if the MSM had their way, they’d send planes into those countries and fly these people INTO our country!

“America owes these people NOTHING. “

And if we don’t put an end to their INVASION, America will end up BEING NOTHING! America is what it is because of our people. The whole of this Hemisphere is populated with mostly uneducated human waste that are nothing like our people, sad to say. There isn’t one country to the south of our southern border that operates successfully for more than a few years, before turmoil returns. Let enough of their kind into the US, and we will become just like their collection of $hit hole countries.

There is nothing that says that when you are too chickensh*t to fight for your own country you must come to America. Personally, I don’t think Americans want these chickensh*t cowards coming here. America is my home. It is not a refugee camp for cowards who embraced socialism and Marxism for the freebies and now have to face the consequences of their dumb decisions.

It breeds a kind of contempt of those people for their own land. Instead of trying to be patriotic back home, they seek a place in a no man’s land.

I can’t see but that Trump will sometime address that issue. Make (whatever other country) great again too.

I really thought their desire to shut themselves off was bad, but this is even worse. You used to go to the article, and there were Facebook pages, letters to editor, even the writers own professional email. But she has only a twitter feed, and it is blocked to anyone but her followers. She refuses to hear anything outside of her own echo chamber.

But the President cannot block his!!!!!

The fate of NK will be a key test here. Can Donald Trump coax it out of communism? If so, he has a template for other lands.

I think we need to extinguish the”Beacon”if only to bring in the most productive people into our society and country.

We don’t need people who are going to be parasites or try and change our way of life.

The Liberals are already doing that we don’t need to give them any help.

“he said. “At what point do we turn off this beacon?””

He’s gone asiatic. The point you turn it off is where it hurts and alters traditional America. More Thanksgiving...Less cinco.

Catch them, catalog them, issue misdemeanor citation, return them south of the border.

2nd offense will be mandatory one year in prison, then return them south again.

This is not a law they can violate by accident. They make a conscious effort to violate it.

The beacon can also shine into other lands in a different way — so as to encourage them to do the best with their own patriotism. That’s a peculiarly Donald Trump (and Christian!) thing.

I’ve been trying to plug a visionary song that I co-wrote over a year ago and the more time passes the more startlingly topical it seems! Look at/listen to the end of the last verse.

“And let the whole world lift its heart up too / As the banner unfurled heralds life anew!”

One of the very few things Sessions has done right is to alter the policy/definition of “refugee”.

Only those who are systematically persecuted by government entities due to some classification (race, religion etc) are eligible now.

People fleeing lawlessness, social breakdown, drug gangs or any other form of violence or threat, are NOT eligible for refugee status in the US.

That eliminates 98% right out of the gate. Now all we need is their country of origin to make a determination.

That’s a major change.
