"...Its about a huge cohort of old people who are scared and resentful that privileges they once took for granted..." Like being drafted into Foreign Wars and having to fight for one's country and family?
When you were a little snot-nosed kid with a fake Southern accent playing second banana to Andy Griffith and Don Knotts.
America was an unrivaled economic powerhouse between 1945 and 1975. We made all the best stuff. No one could touch us. Jobs actually got you ahead. The American Dream was more easily attainable. The Leftists has really began poisoning society and industry after that. The Vietnam War was used as a bludgeon by the anti-American Left. Johnson had wreaked havoc by expanding the welfare state. Nixon didnt do us any favors with Affirmative Action in that it hurts all of us except those who directly benefit. Leftists still didnt have a complete hold on the universities and couldnt shape the thoughts of too many students.
What is Opie really asking?
His question is framed to generate the type of responses from conservatives, so he and his ilk can say that conservatives just want to go back to a time when white people were the majority and are afraid of "change."
The day The Constitution of the United States of America was Ratified, June 21, 1788.
It’s sad to see a man that grew up in the San Fernando Valley, who can’t grasp that there has been a terrible decline in our region over the last 40 years.
This isn’t about White people being in control, and White privilege. This is about any semblance of social order, and what we had breaking down over the last 40 years.
Look folks, if Blacks, Hispanics, or Asians attained middle to upper middle class great. The problem is nowadays, they are destroying what it means to be middle class.
We aren’t moving minorities into the middle class. We are merely destroying the middle class. And I reference that from the vantage point of the law, following the law, looking down on people who break it and refuse to honor our nation at all.
We are headed for anarchy. Does Ron honestly believe that’s better than the 50s and 60s he grew up in, landed his staring role, and propelled him to the life he lived over the years.
Tell us Ron. Do you want others to have the opportunity to live the life you did, or are you as happy as you seem to be, to seeing that middle-class model condemned and destroyed?
It’s truly sad to see a guy like Ron Howard take a crap on his heredity.
1984, Reagan gets re-elected in a historic landslide and Happy Days gets canceled.
Up until the day Dopey was born.
When we nuked Nagasaki.
Why doesn’t he tell us who is better then?
Dumb ass rich little %$@@#^*.
Good job screwing up that Solo movie, btw.
Ron Howard is asking “When exactly was America Great?”
It’s a trap.
What he’s really asking is “When was America Perfect?”
Richie Cunningham’s authenticity is already suspect... He and his cast of
thirty / forty year olds kind of looked lame in their acting roles as high school teens.
1959, when Eisenhower was President, Nixon was President in waiting, Political assassinations in America were practically nonexistent, no Vietnam, the Dollar was practically gold, and Silver was still how money came. I was too little to notice, but that sounds like heaven for this white boy. Now for the colored people, it might be a bit different. Ask some black men who came through WW II that question on the West Coast and I will bet ‘59 would suit them just fine.
Women in the workplace, forced busing, and the Communist inspired Civil Rights movement ruined this country. Not that desegregation didn’t need to happen in law, but to force low intelligence people into schools that were performing quite nicely, took the entire country down a notch.
Now instead of Special education, we have mainstreaming of non-English speaking people, moron level students, and quite frankly, crippled people slowing down the intelligent students.
My neighbor was deaf and could not see very well either. He was given to outbursts of grunting, yelling etc. How was he treated? He was sent a bus just for him to take him to school, and bring him home. He was jammed into Elementary classes and disrupted every other students experience. THAT is progress?
Jeffersonian America: A Second Revolution 1801 - 1825
Republicans (not “Democratic Republicans” which was a revisionist history term) Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe - all 2 term Presidents.
The 1950s. Strongest economy in the world, everyone was full of hope, and we had unrivaled military and scientific power.
Ron should ask his brother, he is the smart one!
December 7th 1941 until January 20, 1989.
Just short of 50 years of GREAT!!
We won two world wars you stupid clown.
(Not you OP)
Little Opie Cunningham sets a rhetorical trap.
Eff you, Opie, you don’t deserve a response.
1953 - 1961.
It’s not a “WHEN”. It’s not a “YEAR”. It’s not a “DECADE”.
It’s about bringing back the “THINGS” that were great about America.
Various things at various times.
Like when kids played outside without fear. When kids rode bikes without farty helmets.
When you didn’t have to lock your doors.
When drugs didn’t infest our neighborhoods.
When just holding a girl’s hand was exciting enough.
When God and Jesus weren’t dirty words.
When nobody knew what LGBTQ was or cared.
When a person’s word was all the contract you needed.
When everyone knew right from wrong.
I’m sure you have many others I didn’t think of.
