The White House said Tuesday that the U.S. military would continue to train with its South Korean counterparts and conduct military drills but not large-scale, joint exercises in a clarification of an offer by President Donald Trump to North Koreas leader Kim Jong Un.

People stuck at an airport have to watch CNN. Think they are going to repeat a misleading report on this all day long?
I am retired military and I understood exactly what President Trump meant. All the people in my office understood what trump meant. All of them also understood that the exercises could be started right back.
What a bunch of maroons.
The media is paid to “misunderstand” what Trump does.
I suspect S.Korea’s moon cares.....but as mentioned WE are the ones paying for most of these protecting his country so he needs to consider paying his fair share rather than expect us to foot the bill.
Exactly! Trump wanted to allow Kim to save face (for now anyway).
Trumps willing to give Kim rope.....basically giving him what he asked for to see if he’s bluffing or not.....like he did with the Dems on DACA.
This is why when Trumps in the midst of negotiations sit tight no matter what it looks like....have to give him room to set the stage and leverage he wants.
A training exercise of any scale and/or a deployment to anywhere is merely an order away. The planners have them pre-written. All thats required is a few last minute modifications and a date/time added.
All militaries train. But you dont conduct joint exercises aimed at a country with whom youre at peace. Thats the message of Trumps decision. That we no longer consider North Korea an enemy.
At the Atlanta Greyhound depot, I had to listen to their ‘expose’ on Sea World so many times that I started rooting for the killer wales.
Stopping the political saber rattling that costs a lot of extra funding, produced wear, tear, failure on equipment and greatly increases risks injury or death to service personnel is an interesting concept. A significant portion of training is done in simulators and other carefully staged training sites.
For decades now the battlespace is defined in software that is constantly updated with the latest recon photos and intel. Just flip the "switch" and it's on, anywhere in the world. All thought out, planned out with 4 (NASA standard) levels of redundancy minimum.
Clarification? That’s exactly what I thought he meant.
Hence the “war” in “war games” - so naturally that means large scale operations.
But I guess we have to “clarify” for the unhinged libs that try to twist everything Trump says.
People have smart phones, iPads, and laptops at the airport now.
Every airport I have been to in the last five years had outlets as well.
Fact is if things go badly on KP, our troops are sitting ducks. No reason for them to be there.
Same here - and participated in them Korean peninsula exercises in the mid ‘80s....
I’ve heard on Fox from General Jack Keane that the next large scale military exercise isn’t scheduled until the spring of 2019. That’s almost a year away. Long before then we will know if Kim is on the path to denuke. If he’s not, the planning and those drills can be instantly started up. This was a throwaway promise.
If he is on the path to denuclearization and has verifiably begun the process I think everyone would be fine with us not having this large scale exercise. When I was in the Marine Corps, the big South Korean exercise was called Team Spirit and was in the spring. The smaller exercise I did there was called Bear Hunt and was conducted in November. I’m not sure if these are still the same drills, but even by November we should be able to see if this regime is serious and if Bear Hunt still exists, it can be re-started if they are not serious.
