Kim did not “get it all”. But he got a lot in the form of recognition, ending military exercises, Trump adopting Kim’s position on those exercises, and Trump’s glowing praise. And what exactly did he give in return?

The sanctions that brought him to the table are still in place. If Kim doesn’t come through he will continue to suffer. At this point he certainly got his ego stroked but that will wear off quickly if he reneges.

Agreed to give up nukes.

Now if he reneges on his agreements, then Trump can cancel out also.

That is how that works.

You did not know that?

I look at it that we got a chance to turn the most dangerous Nation on the planet into a Nation focused on trade and economic growth. It’s not a done deal but it’s a chance we didn’t have before. And we gave away nothing tangible. The recognition is a deposit on account and it will all go away if KJU doesn’t follow through.

A weak person worries about “face”. President Trump worries about a nuclear holocaust and millions dead. He sees potential to turn the area towards being a peaceful economic partner. He risks very little.

Kim’s father & grandfather broke deals, Kim is in a different position, a very young man in a very impoverished country, where the population is starving. Kim has so much to gain for his country with POTUS’ help, he is being offered a real alternative. The gains to us are primarily national security and secondarily an economic partner.

But military exercises were ended before:

“Team Spirit was a joint military training exercise of United States Forces Korea and the Military of South Korea held between 1976 and 1993. The exercise was also scheduled from 1994 to 1996 but cancelled during this time period as part of diplomatic efforts to encourage the Government of North Korea to disable the North Korean nuclear weapons program.[1] The North Korea regime abandoned talks following the January 1986 Team Spirit exercises,[2] and in late 1992, North Korea unilaterally withdrew from the South-North High-Level Talks due to the 1993 Team Spirit exercise.”
