I was talking to this person several weeks ago, and I said, by way of introduction, that I thought it might perhaps be too early to discern a definitive Trump Doctrine.

“No,” the official said. “There’s definitely a Trump Doctrine.”

“What is it?” I asked. Here is the answer I received:

“The Trump Doctrine is ‘We’re America, Bitch.’ That’s the Trump Doctrine.”

Made up. I don't believe this happened. It's the author wishing this conversation occurred as he's trying to make Trump look like an ogre.

When I was in high school, my German teacher complained, “Why do Americans expect Germans to speak English? Why don’t they (she was from Germany) learn German?”

Without thinking, I blurted out, “Because we won!”

Sure didn’t help my grade that semester...

Folks like Jeff Goldberg don’t like the fact America wins more medals at the Olympics than other countries. If the US wins gold on the last day and some small country’s anthem has not been played yet, Jeff thinks we should play theirs just so everyone gets a chance.
