This story reminds me of the newspaper story back in the 1910’s or twenties when some idiots tried to rob a bank in Texas and got ventilated by every single shop owner in the area, a lawyer sitting in his 2nd floor office, and some kid passing by with a .22.

Wish I could find the reference??

Part of the enthusiasm no doubt stemmed from the fact in those days, there was no deposit insurance. The bank robbers literally stole their money, and probably every depositor had to take a hit on their balance when a robbery occured.
